"Not Only Books"

- Makor Outreach Program

Makor Outreach Program

Makor Outreach Program is an initiative of the Makor Jewish Community Library. Supported by a grant from the Glen Eira City Council, the program provides access to the library resources to any home-bound residents of Glen Eira.

The program includes:

Free delivery service for books, talking books, CDs and DVDs that are available for loan

  • Search Makor′s online catalogue, and then order by phone or email

  • Check online what′s new on the shelves

  • You can also inquire about resources by ringing Makor Library.

Group Activities: Readings, film watching, and listening activities, in English or Hebrew. These  are held in and facilitated by the library. With the help of our amazing volunteers, the monthly movies and  Hebrew sessions are now an ongoing service.

Free pick-up and drop-off service for seniors attending these sessions (subject to volunteer availability).

′′People who are no longer able to drive or commute independently may become very isolated, socially and culturally, especially if they are of non-Australian background,′′ says Leonie Fleiszig, Makor Library Director.  "Also, if they are in an aged-care residence, or rehabilitation centre, language barriers and other factors may   contribute to loneliness and depression. In this situation, an incentive that encourages library usage and contact with other people through the library may provide a new outlook and prove important for overall well-being."

Write Your Story

You do not have to be a skilled writer to become one of our authors. It is the story that counts!

"People of The Book" Certificates

Makor Library is proud to promote "People Of The Book", a fully tax-deductible gift that makes it possible to have a book dedicated to a person or family by means of a permanent inscription on the inside front cover, and in the library online catalogue.

A book dedication is the ideal way to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries or any special occasions - while helping the Library with acquisitions of new, contemporary books.

Books to be dedicated may cover subjects such as Jewish history and culture, the Holocaust, the State of Israel, children's books or particular topics within Jewish music, art, biography, cookery or sport.

As well as books, the Library also has DVD's, videotapes, music CD's and CD-ROMS all suitable for dedication.

A person who has a book dedicated in his/her honour also receives a superb certificate of appreciation designed by accomplished Israeli artist Phyllis Gross. This is a one-off piece commissioned by the Library for the "People Of The Book" project, and will carry the name of the person who is being honoured and the name of the donor, making it an ideal display piece.

Prices start from $25.00 (incl.GST). Contact Makor on 9272-5611 for more information.
