Write Your ISRAEL Story

In celebration of Israel’s 60th birthday, Makor  Library and the State Zionist Council of Victoria will publish an anthology of stories showing our community’s strong connection with Israel.

The anthology will include autobiographical stories from local community members which will put a personal face to the history of Israel’s 60 years. Stories should be no more than 5,000 words, and should show the connection between the writer and Israel.

Interested individuals are encouraged to post or email a one-page summary to Makor Library. You do not have to be a skilled writer, nor pay for publishing to become one of our authors. It’s the story that counts!

For any questions, or help with the writing (perhaps you would prefer to tell your story?), please ring the library on 9272 5611.

About us

Makor Jewish Community Library has emerged twenty two years ago from a resource centre for the Jewish youth movements in Melbourne. Since 1985, we have been serving the needs of the general public, and steadily expanding resources and reaching out to more people in Australia′s multi-cultural community.

In today‛s "Global Village", with the overwhelming amount of information available, the role of professional guidance in search for information has no substitute. And Makor personnel are always there for you! Makor resources are constantly updated. We strive to provide the public with the latest books, films and music, better computers and new audio-visual technology.

To continue this important work, Makor Library needs your help!  Unlike other libraries, we cannot rely on government funding. Makor operations are wholly funded by your donations and completely dependent on the community‛s generosity. Makor Library and Resource Centre (ABN 55 077 123 234) is a charitable institution and hence endorsed as a Tax Deductible Gift Recipient. Donations over $2 are fully tax deductible.

"People of The Book" Certificates

Makor Library is proud to promote "People Of The Book", a fully tax-deductible gift that makes it possible to have a book dedicated to a person or family by means of a permanent inscription on the inside front cover, and in the library online catalogue.

A book dedication is the ideal way to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries or any special occasions - while helping the Library with acquisitions of new, contemporary books.

Books to be dedicated may cover subjects such as Jewish history and culture, the Holocaust, the State of Israel, children's books or particular topics within Jewish music, art, biography, cookery or sport.

As well as books, the Library also has DVD's, videotapes, music CD's and CD-ROMS all suitable for dedication.

A person who has a book dedicated in his/her honour also receives a superb certificate of appreciation designed by accomplished Israeli artist Phyllis Gross. This is a one-off piece commissioned by the Library for the "People Of The Book" project, and will carry the name of the person who is being honoured and the name of the donor, making it an ideal display piece.

Prices start from $25.00 (incl.GST). Contact Makor on 9272-5611 for more information.
