'Write Your Story' Program
The 'Write Your Story' program is a
well known cultural activity of Makor Library. Developed and co-ordinated by Julie Meadows, the program offers support
for people to write their autobiographies, through classes and editorial advice, The memoirs that have resulted were
written primarily for the children and grandchildren of the authors but it soon became apparent that they were
attracting a wider audience.
The 'Write Your Story' publications are
now part of a growing archive, the Loti and Victor Smorgon archive, housed at Makor, that will furnish
future readers and scholars with primary-source material on the social history of the Melbourne Jewish Community. Some
of our writers are third-generation Australians but the majority are migrants or children of migrants. Whether the
stories start in the 1880s, the 1930s or post-1945, they offer valuable information to future generations about the
first-comers and the structures they built.

'Write Your Story' Classes
|
You don't have to be a 'writer' yourself to write your
story for your children, grandchildren, or yourself in a warm and encouraging atmosphere. Makor offers expert guidance
with writing, editing and publication. A great range of backgrounds and experiences of those who make up our Community
is brought to life in our weekly writing sessions.
Classes run every Wednesday afternoon. Cost
is $11 or $7.70 concession (including GST). For further information contact Leonie Fleiszig on 9272 5611.
